Bern: Winning design for part of new Bubenberg Centre building selected
The Bernese office B has won the architectural competition for the new construction of the Bubenberg Center 10-12. SBB acquired the existing property near Bern's main train station in 2015.
"The winning project convinced the jury with its good spatial integration and the coherent solution for the new central station access from Bubenbergplatz," says SBB Immobilien. According to the jury's report, the project "fits naturally into the urban planning situation despite the complex requirements". The winning project offers "an adequate and unagitated solution between the different witnesses of (architectural) history, between Länggassquartier and Hirschengraben as well as to Bubenbergplatz".
Plans are still being adapted and optimized
In order for the planned partial new construction of the Bubenberg Center to meet the complex usage requirements and economic efficiency, certain adjustments are necessary. SBB has therefore asked Büro B to optimize the project in consultation with the City of Bern, a delegation of the expert jury and Swiss Federal Railways.
With the new property Bubenbergzentrum 10-12, SBB intends to realize the new Bubenberg station access by 2025 as part of the Zukunft Bahnhof Bern project. The overall planning and execution of the planned new building was put out to tender in an anonymous project competition. Fifteen planning teams took part in the competition and applied for the project execution.
