Hergiswil: Former GfK building becomes residential building

An unusual conversion project is currently being built in Hergiswil. The office building formerly used by the market research company GfK is being turned into living and working space for young people under the name "Universe 9".

The former office building at Obermattweg 9 in Hergiswil is currently being thoroughly remodeled. It is to be put into operation as a new "student home" in mid-February 2018. Until then, former offices will be converted into rooms, sanitary facilities and communal kitchens will be installed, and common rooms will be set up. The official opening is scheduled for March 3, 2018, with an open house.

Universe 9" will have 95 rooms, and there will also be numerous communal facilities: a study lounge, movement rooms for dance or yoga, a sewing studio, a bicycle workshop and a garden for self-catering, as well as a café with a small store.

Initiators Cornelius and Amanda Jäger have their sights set on students, apprentices, low-wage workers and senior citizens as tenants. They hope that an intergenerational project will develop and that the residents will actively help shape their home. At the end of 2017, 40 percent of the rooms had already been reserved.
