Migros Aare buys industrial site in Utzenstorf
The Migros Aare cooperative is the new owner of the land of the Utzenstorf (BE) paper mill. It has acquired the industrial site as a strategic reserve.

With effect from February 1, Migros Aare became the new owner of the 320,000 sqm industrial site of Papierfabrik Utzenstorf AG. Nothing was disclosed about the amount of the purchase price.
The land was up for sale after Perlen Papier AG took over the waste paper business of the Utzenstorf paper mill. Production and waste paper recycling will be concentrated at the Perlen site near Lucerne as of the end of 2017.
As the new landowner, Migros Aare is granting the paper mill a building lease until 2023, the cooperative says. During this time, the paper mill will dismantle its operating buildings. Perlen Papier AG will also continue to operate the waste paper sorting plant in Utzenstorf for at least five years.
With the purchase of the industrial site in Utzenstorf, Migros is forming a strategic land reserve, according to the cooperative. Migros Aare wants to decide on the long-term use of the site together with the regional Migros cooperatives, the companies of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives and the responsible authorities. This is not yet ready for decision. For the time being, interim uses are to be examined and implemented. What these might look like, however, is also still open.
