Zurich: Building cooperative plans 135 million new building
The Linth-Escher building cooperative in Zurich is rebuilding its housing estate on Birchstrasse in Seebach and doubling its housing supply at the site to 300 apartments.
At the General Meeting of the Linth-Escher Building Cooperative on June 1, 2018, members approved a construction loan of CHF 135 million, giving the green light for the largest construction project in the cooperative's 80-year history.
The planned development comprises two elongated structures along Birchstrasse in Zurich Seebach with a total of 300 apartments; public uses are planned on the first floors. The new buildings replace two old housing estates with 139 small-scale apartments. The project is being realized by Enzmann Fischer Architekten from Zurich, who won first prize in the architectural competition.
According to the cooperative, moderate rents of between CHF 1,000 for a 2.5-room apartment and CHF 2,300 for 5.5 rooms can be expected in the new apartments.
