Zurich: South wing of the main station to be renovated
In mid-June, SBB began general renovation of the south wing of Zurich's main station. The striking, listed building by architect Jakob Friedrich Wanner dates from 1871 and is a landmark of the city.

After almost 150 years, the sandstone building is now due for a general refurbishment, SBB says. In addition to the technical systems, the building shell also requires renovation in order to maintain the condition and value of the facilities. The construction measures will take place in two stages.
By 2020, the arcade at the east portal will have a basement, and a new production kitchen will be installed below the Wanner Hall. The second stage, from the second quarter of 2020 to the summer of 2023, will involve the total renovation of the south wing from the first basement to the fourth floor, including the roof and facade.
