Bern: Building application for Burgernziel tram depot submitted
The Burgernziel streetcar depot construction project by Gebäudeversicherung Bern (GVB) and the ACHT housing cooperative (wbg8) is making progress: the building application has been submitted, and an anchor tenant has been secured in the form of Migros.

GVB wants to build a residential and commercial building on the site of the old Burgernziel streetcar depot together with wbg8. The anchor tenant in the commercial section will be Migros, which plans to open a branch on the first floor. A restaurant with a community room, a mixed-age school class (basic level) and a daycare center are also planned in the new building. According to the developers, there is great interest in the remaining commercial space.
Plans for the superstructure were announced back in January 2017, now the building application has been submitted. As soon as the building permit authority gives the green light, construction is to begin. This is expected to happen at the beginning of 2019. According to GVB and wbg8, construction will take around two years. The Burgernziel streetcar depot project is being implemented with the total contractor Losinger Marazzi.
