Swiss Post plans branch closures
Swiss Post plans to operate only 800 to 900 of today's 1,400 traditional post offices by 2020. Accordingly, around 600 branches are facing closure.

In return, Deutsche Post plans to create new access options such as postal agencies, My Post 24 machines, posting and pick-up points and other service points. Their number is to increase from 3,700 today to more than 4,000. The background to the restructuring plans, which could affect 1,200 employees, is the trend toward digitalization, according to a statement from Swiss Post. Sales at the counter have declined very sharply overall, it said: In letters by 63 percent since 2000, in parcels by 42 percent and in payment transactions by 37 percent.
Swiss Post wants to define traditional post offices for all cantons that are not eligible for conversion to a postal agency in the next few years. (ah)
