Basel: 170 new apartments on Eisenbahnweg
The Eisenbahnweg site near the Schwarzwaldbrücke bridge in Kleinbasel is to be developed with apartments. The necessary development plan has now been approved by the government.
Rimmobas Anlagestiftung, the landowner, wants to develop the Eisenbahnweg site, which has been lying fallow for several years. On the site directly on the Rhine and right next to the railroad and the national road, 170 new apartments are to be built by 2022.
The design by Buchner Bründler Architekten from Basel, which won the study contract, envisages an L-shaped development: Along Grenzacherstrasse, a twelve-story and almost 40-meter-high building section is to be erected, while a five-story, 18-meter-high structure is planned against the railroad embankment. In this way, the entire area can be shielded from noise.
However, this type of building requires a development plan, which was made public in March of this year. According to the government council, 36 objections and three suggestions were received. The objectors had primarily criticized the planned demolition of the property Eisenbahnweg 24. In addition, an increased parking pressure in Eisenbahnweg was feared, since only about 80 parking spaces are planned for the 170 apartments. The government council proposes to reject the objections. The matter now goes to the Grand Council for consideration.
Independently of the new building project, Rimmobas is planning to build 370 underground parking spaces to be used by Roche. According to the government council, this is already possible today without a development plan, based on the current parking space legislation via a parking space transfer. (ah)
