Zurich: CitizenM opens first Swiss house
The Dutch design hotel chain CitizenM is opening a hotel near Paradeplatz in Zurich in August.
The expansion of the hotel chain into Switzerland had already been announced a good year ago. At that time, the owner of the Talacker 42 property, the UBS Sima real estate fund, had announced that CitizenM would operate a 160-room hotel in the building not far from Paradeplatz.
The first floor will feature a guest zone with a living room, lounge and bar, as well as conference and meeting rooms. The rooms are distributed on the first to fifth floors.
The Dutch hotel chain CitizenM prefers to open its locations in top locations. While the public areas of the hotels are generously furnished, the rooms themselves are quite small and space-saving at 17 square meters. There is also no reception: guests check in themselves via so-called kiosks - in this way, queues are to be avoided.
The chain's first store opened at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in 2008, and since then has added locations in London, New York, Paris, Shanghai and Taipei, among others. (ah)
