A new development can be built in the center of Köniz (BE). The municipal council has approved the entry into force of the corresponding change to the land use plan.

The Janus project on the centrally located Rappentöri site envisages a five- and seven-storey head-end building on Bläuackerplatz and a five-storey, long building along Stapfenstrasse. The head-end building is to house service, retail, restaurant and residential uses, while the building along Stapfenstrasse is to be a residential building. In the green space between the new development and Köniz Castle, the Sulgenbach stream is to be opened up and renaturalized.

The zone with planning obligation (ZPP) for the Rappentöri site was approved by voters on May 21, 2017 and approved by the Office for Communities and Regional Planning on November 1, 2017. Two appeals were received against this approval; one was withdrawn in the course of the proceedings and the second was rejected. As no appeal against this decision was received, the Köniz municipal council decided to bring the Rappentöri ZPP into force on May 30, 2019. This means that the zoning regulations and the construction projects to redesign Stapfenstrasse and renaturalize the Sulgenbach can now continue.

The plots of land for the Rappentöri development belong to the municipality and are being handed over under building rights. A vote still has to be held on the transaction for the transfer of building rights to the investors. (ah)
