Basel: Maryon Foundation takes over the Black Bear

According to local media reports, the Edith Maryon Foundation is taking over the Zum Schwarzen Bären property in Basel's Rheingasse.

The property Zum Schwarzen Bären at Rheingasse 17, also known as Rheinhof, was massively damaged by a major fire in August. Since the beginning of September, the deconstruction of the gable structure and the third floor has been underway. According to Basel's presidential department, reconstruction of the historic building is expected to take one to two years.

Now local media report that the Edith Maryon charitable foundation will take over the building on Oct. 1. As it is stated among other things in the Basel newspaper is called the foundation wants to rebuild the Rheinhof as soon as possible and enable a variety of uses in it. The project is also intended to strengthen the boulevard character of the Rheingasse.

According to the report, the foundation is already in talks with the Krafft Group about a future use. The Krafft Group operates the Hotel Krafft and Consum in Rheingasse. Both businesses are located in properties owned by the Maryon Foundation. (ah)
