Bilanz" quotes Aldi Suisse CEO Timo Schuster as saying that a branch is conceivable in practically every location along Lake Zurich. One obstacle to the expansion plans, however, is likely to be that suitable and inexpensive locations are in short supply, especially around Lake Zurich.

Across Switzerland, Aldi plans to open five to ten stores a year over the next few years. In the long term, Aldi plans to ensure that 90 percent of the population can reach a store within ten minutes. There are currently 180 Aldi stores and 102 stores of competitor Lidl in Switzerland. Based on 2014 sales figures, they are jointly in fifth place, behind Migros and Coop, as well as Migros subsidiary Denner and Manor. (ah)
