Bern: City buys residential building in Länggasse
Bern's municipal council has decided to acquire a six-storey residential building in Länggasse. The purchase price is CHF 7 million.

The property at Hallerstrasse 60 was built in the mid-1930s and is in good to very good condition overall, according to a statement from Bern's municipal council. It has ten three-room apartments and one five-room apartment on the attic floor.
In view of the excellent location and the standard, the rents are well below the market level, but the municipal council also writes that it is not appropriate to classify the apartments in the "affordable housing with rental criteria" (GüWR) rental segment at present due to the standard of the apartments.
The purchase will be processed via the city's CHF 60 million framework credit for the purchase of residential properties, which was approved by Bern's voters in May 2019. As part of the housing offensive, the city wants to gradually increase the city's supply of affordable housing - including through acquisitions. (ah)
