After years of planning, the development of the new Papieri site in Cham (ZG) is taking concrete shape: At the beginning of June, Cham Group was able to lay the official foundation stone for the construction of the first stage of the major project together with representatives of the authorities and the most important project partners.

Laying of the foundation stone on the Papieri site - Hannes Schmuckli (Head of HRS Real Estate Lucerne), Martin Scherer (CEO Emch+Berger), Roland Dubach (CEO Anliker), Hubert Seifert (CEO Porr Suisse), Rolf Ineichen (Municipal Councillor), Georges Helfenstein (President of the Municipality), Philipp Buhofer (President of Cham Group), Florian Weber (Government Councillor), Andreas Friederich (CEO Cham Group), Andreas Galli (Galli Rudolf Architekten), Roger Boltshauser (Boltshauser Architekten), Adrian Berger (Owner Huggenbergerfries Architekten), Matthias Gruchot (Project Manager Müller Illien Landscape Architects; v.l.t.r.; Image: Cham Group)

Construction work is already in full swing: the first stage of the new Papieri site comprises the renovation of the Lokremise, the construction of the southernmost high-rise building with the Papieri Suites, a new building with rental apartments, and the conversion of the listed paper machine halls on the Lorze into spacious loft apartments. According to the Cham Group, a search is currently underway for a suitable operator for the conversion of the boiler house into a restaurant, which is intended to contribute to the revitalization of the district.

The first stage will also include the construction of the central Papieri Square with open staircase and the new Lorzen Bridge, which will provide access to parts of the site from the west. A total of 105 condominiums and 160 rental apartments will be built in this first stage, which together with around 4,400 square meters of service and commercial space are expected to be ready for occupation from the second half of 2022.
