Conversion plans for Dübendorf military airfield fail
The planned conversion of the military airfield at Dübendorf (ZH) with an innovation park, a federal military base and a civil airfield does not come to fruition. The federal government discontinues the sectoral plan procedure.

According to the Federal Council, the background to the decision was a significant change in the initial situation. Among other things, the site municipalities had expressed major reservations about the concept, and the Administrative Court of the Canton of Zurich also put the brakes on planning for the Innovation Park on the site in July 2020. It is therefore not realistic to stick to the current concept, the Federal Council said. The cooperation with Flughafen Dübendorf AG will be terminated, and DETEC and DDPS are to participate in a new planning process by the canton of Zurich.
The canton wants to restart the entire area planning and, among other things, review the scope, use and operating times of the civil airfield. Especially against the background of the Corona crisis, the question arises as to how high the demand for flight capacity still is.
The federal government emphasizes that it is still interested in the triple use - innovation park, civil airfield and federal military base. (ah)
