The Circle is open

After more than five years of construction, The Circle at Zurich Airport officially opened on November 5, 2020. The development was the largest building construction site in Switzerland.

The Circle comprises a total of 180,000 square meters of space, including two Hyatt hotels with a convention center, numerous stores and restaurants, as well as office space - several international companies have relocated their headquarters to this excellently accessible location. The Circle and the adjacent park are directly connected to the airport terminals.

Numerous stores and businesses are located on the main square and in the alleys of the development: a Jelmoli Lifestyle House and Sports House, a boutique of the watch brand Omega, and innovative retail concepts by Anecdote by Dufry, Läderach Chocolatier Suisse, Sapori d'Italia, and DLUX Hair. In addition, there are pop-up stores of the Zurich cosmetics label Soeder and the Swiss e-bike manufacturer Stromer.

First hotel opens in December

A rooftop restaurant offers views of the park, while the rest of the superstructure and the two hotels - the Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Place Zurich Airport The Circle - feature other dining options. The Hyatt Regency Hotel and Convention Hall, which can accommodate 2,500 people, will open this December. The Hyatt Place Hotel will follow in spring 2021.

The University Hospital Zurich USZ has already opened an outpatient health center in the Circle in October; a pharmacy and a Neuroth hearing center complement the health care offerings.

The office space is also filling up: employees of Flughafen Zürich AG, Isolutions and Totemo are already working in the Circle. By the end of the year, Raiffeisen, Abraxas, Lunge Zürich and Inventx will also be moving into their spaces, and a daycare center, fitness center and staff restaurant will also be opening soon. Other office tenants, including Horváth & Partners, Microsoft, Edelweiss, MSD, Novo Nordisk, SAP and Oracle, will move into their spaces next year. Co-working spaces will also open in 2021.

"condensed building and modern concept of use".

Andreas Schmid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Flughafen Zürich AG, says the realization decision was a "courageous step" by the co-owners Flughafen Zürich and Swiss Life. "We took a lot of time in the early stages of development to choose the right concept. The careful determination of the mix of uses and positioning, and the architectural competition based on that, took several years and are part of the reason we were able to keep construction costs under control and are almost fully leased when we open."

"The Circle is a forward-looking development in every respect: dense and sustainable construction in the right location and a modern utilization concept that is geared to the needs of both current and future generations," says Rolf Dörig, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Life. (ah)
