CSA Real Estate Switzerland, an investment group of Credit Suisse Investment Foundation, is the owner of the 1940s former Ciba plant estate near Horburgplatz in Basel. It wants to build two residential buildings there, with nine and 17 floors, connected by a plinth.

According to the investment group, the new Horburg Dreirosen building will provide space for around 100 apartments, underground parking, commercial space and a café. A new kindergarten will also be built. The development has been planned by the Basel office of Buchner Bründler Architekten.

The rows of buildings of the former Ciba plant estate are to remain and will be placed under monument protection. The tenancies of the approximately 160 apartments will not be terminated, Philipp Vogt, representative of the owner, emphasized at the online media conference.

Beat Aeberhard, Basel-Stadt's cantonal architect, said the project was warmly welcomed because it complemented existing housing rather than displacing it. "This further development in existing buildings makes an important contribution to Basel."

The development plan required for the project proposal will be open to the public from November 23 to December 22, 2020. (ah)
