Bern: Vote on New Festival Hall imminent

On March 7, 2021, the people of Berne will vote on the construction of the New Festival Hall on the Bernexpo site. The plan is to build a multifunctional hall with space for around 9,000 people.

In concrete terms, Bernese voters will decide on March 7 on the investment contribution of CHF 15 million to Messepark Bern AG for the New Festival Hall on the Bern Exhibition Grounds, as well as on the planning law basis required for the construction of the Festival Hall, the Mingerstrasse-Papiermühlestrasse zoning ordinance.

A "yes" vote on the two proposals would pave the way for the construction of a new venue with a maximum capacity of around 9,000 people - a scale that has not previously existed in the capital.

The new building is to replace the Festhalle on the Bernexpo site, which was built in 1948 as a temporary structure, and is scheduled to open in 2024.

The four companies HRS Real Estate, Mobiliar, Visana and Securitas hold a total of 45% in Messepark Bern AG, which owns the Bernexpo site. (ah)
