Engelberg: Kempinski opens five-star superior hotel
The Kempinski hotel group is opening the luxury Kempinski Palace Engelberg hotel at the end of June. For this purpose, the former Europäischer Hof has been transformed into a five-star superior hotel with spa, restaurants and meeting rooms.
The hotel building, steeped in history and built at the end of the 19th century by Engelberg hotelier Eduard Cattani and his brother, architect Arnold Cattani, is located directly next to the spa gardens and only a few minutes' walk from the train station. The owner Han's Europe AG had the grand hotel from the Belle Epoque era converted. According to operator Kempinski, historic features such as tile mosaics and coffered ceilings were uncovered during construction and integrated into the new interior design. A fireplace was also left in place. Local materials such as wood and stone played a major role in the redesign, with alpine motifs picked up and transformed, it said.
The house includes 129 rooms and suites, as well as several catering facilities. On the top floor of the hotel there is an 880 sqm spa with infinity pool. Together with the Kursaal Engelberg, the hotel has nine meeting rooms with a total area of about 850 square meters. Events with up to 1,000 guests can be held in the newly renovated historic Kursaal, which is operated by Kursaal AG Engelberg. (ah)
