University of St. Gallen plans expansion

The University of St. Gallen (HSG) has extensive expansion plans. An expansion of the university library is planned on the current site at Rosenberg, and a second campus is to be built on the Platztor site by 2025. The canton and city of St. Gallen support the project because it will give the HSG the space it needs for its future development, relieve the pressure on the Rotmonten neighborhood, and enhance the urban development of the eastern city center.

Currently, the HSG expansion project is in the master planning stage. The parliamentary procedures are to be carried out in 2017, and a referendum is planned for the fall of the same year. A competition will then be held, and construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2022. The extension should be ready for occupancy by 2025 at the latest. (ah)
