Retail: Migros expands with Alnatura

On April 28, a new Alnatura organic supermarket opens in Zurich Oerlikon at Baumackerstrasse 35. This is the German chain's seventh store in Switzerland; so far there are three in Zurich and one each in Winterthur, Zug and Bülach.

The Migros Zurich cooperative, which owns Alnatura's operations in Switzerland, previously said it plans to open around 30 of the brand's stores in Swiss cities in the medium to long term. Most recently, an Alnatura organic supermarket opened on Löwenstrasse in Zurich in February 2015. According to Migros, customer footfall there has exceeded all expectations: 6,400 purchases had been made in the first three days.

Migros opened the first Swiss Alnatura in 2012 in the Höngg district of Zurich, and in parallel selected products from the brand were gradually integrated into the range of regular Migros stores in German-speaking Switzerland. Currently, this involves around 100 stores. Towards the end of this year, Migros stores in Ticino and western Switzerland are also to be equipped with Alnatura products. (ah)
