WinCity sports centre can be built
Winterthur's WinCity sports project on the Deutweg site has received the building permit, and the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for the summer. The opening of the first construction phase, which includes the ball sports arena and "Sporttrakt 1", is planned for 2018.
The investment volume for the first stage is around CHF 35 million. The city is providing the investors with the land in building rights. In addition to the arena, which is to become the new home of the Pfadi Winterthur handball club, plans also include facilities for sports medicine, rehabilitation, diagnostics, a fitness center, a sports school and gastronomy. Anchor tenants include Winterthur Cantonal Hospital, sports medicine provider Medbase and Swiss Olympic's NET sports high school.
In a second stage, as soon as further space can be rented, the "sports wing 2" will follow.
The entire ensemble, designed by EM2N Architekten from Zurich, consists of three independent buildings whose entrances are connected by a central circulation space. In front of the building, a large town square will be arranged on Grüzefeldstrasse, while the other open spaces will complement the existing sports facilities with a sports park. (ah)
