Burgdorf: New plans for the old butter center
A new neighborhood is to be built on the site of the old butter center on Farbweg in Burgdorf. The driving force is Raiffeisen Pensionskasse Genossenschaft from St. Gallen, which has purchased a substantial share of the land.
According to a report by the Raiffeisen pension fund (PK), the Bernese newspaper acquired the 3,347 sqm plot from the canton at the beginning of the year. The PF is now the owner of a 43 percent share of the entire site, with the Migros Aare cooperative (44%), the town of Burgdorf (11%) and two private individuals (2%) being the other owners.
Now an urban planning and study contract is to be carried out; the town of Burgdorf has drawn up a project outline under the name "Arealentwicklung Farbweg". According to the newspaper report, a dense urban development with a broad spectrum of uses is planned. Buildings with basically four stories are conceivable, in some areas even five to six stories. A mix of uses is envisaged, with the emphasis on housing, especially along the Mülibach. However, service businesses, retail trade, gastronomy and trade should also be possible. The former butter center that still stands on the site is classified as "worth preserving"; it may therefore only be demolished if a replacement of at least equal value is available.
In the next step, the Raiffeisen-PK wants to push ahead with the evaluation of architects and urban planners, who could then draw up a development plan. By the end of 2016, the monitoring of the planning process should be determined and a study commission should be issued by mid-2017. Then, starting in the third quarter of 2017, the superstructure regulations could be developed. (ah)
