Ibsa, a multinational pharmaceutical company, has presented these days its CorPharma project. The multifunctional complex is currently taking shape between Lugano and the municipality of Collina d'Oro, not far from Centro Lugano Sud, where the company already has plants. What has been under construction here for just under a year and a half is a veritable "district" that, when completed, will cover an area of 43,000 square meters and, in addition to the production facilities, will also house the general management, the foundations, the commercial administration and the research and development area.
The first plans to expand and modernize the plant emerged back in 2008, and with the construction of the "CorPharma District," Ibsa says it intends to "concentrate the group's activities, refurbish and transform existing buildings, promote high-value industrial settlements, reshape the landscape, and preserve and promote biodiversity."
According to the Group, there will be space for a total of 250 workplaces, as well as a crèche, a kindergarten, leisure facilities and premises for training and cultural events.
According to Arturo Licenziati, President, CEO and founder of Ibsa, the plant at Pian Scairolo will be Ibsa's "most important production site". According to architect Christophe Almeida Direito, great importance was attached to the sustainability of the materials and the greening of the surroundings during construction. For example, the aim was to promote biodiversity by planting indigenous medicinal herbs. According to regional media reports, work on the new quarter is already well advanced; the new plant is due to start production by mid-2022. (bw)
