On the site north of the Ilfiskreisel in Langnau i.E., ground was broken for a new residential and commercial building on 13 October 2021. The parties involved are the Visana employee benefits foundation as investor, Halter AG, which is responsible for the realisation, Aldi Suisse as the future tenant of the retail space and the vbarchitekten.ag office from Thun.

The project comprises a mixed-use development consisting of a retail space leased to Aldi Suisse, rental apartments and commercial and office space for third parties. The ground or entrance floor will be occupied by the major retailer, while the second floor will contain a staff room for Aldi Suisse as well as nine rental apartments and a commercial unit. On the two floors above, a further 16 rental apartments will be built, each with its own loggia or terrace. The building has two basement levels with cellar and technical rooms as well as a parking garage with around 80 parking spaces.

Construction work is scheduled to be completed and the new building handed over to the investor at the end of August 2023. The Aldi store is scheduled to open and the apartments and commercial space will be occupied in October 2023. (ah)
