At its Capital Markets Day, Mobimo announced that its real estate portfolio is to be CO2-neutral by 2050. According to Marco Tondel, Head of Development and Sustainability at the real estate company, transformations in the portfolio are one of the most important measures in this regard. Since 2011, Mobimo has reduced emissions by more than 50% to 16 kg CO2eq/sqm.

In order to achieve the target of emissions of 1.5 kg CO2eq/sq m including tenant electricity by 2050, Mobimo is focusing not only on refurbishing and optimising existing properties but also on increasing its own electricity production using photovoltaics and transitioning energy-optimised in-house developments into the portfolio. Annual investments will average CHF 40 million, says Tondel. In addition, there will be around 10,000 sqm of photovoltaic installations by 2030 and 25,000 sqm by 2050. As things stand today, however, additional compensation measures will have to be taken.

According to CFO Stefan Hilber, Mobimo is currently working on a framework for sustainable bonds, so-called green bonds. According to Hilber, these securities are an attractive financing option for transformation and development projects as well as sustainable existing properties. (ah)
