Start of construction for Halter Metropol project in Wetzikon
Construction work has started on the Metropol center development in Wetzikon. The developer is Halter AG, the investor is Turintra, a company of the UBS fund Sima.

On the site where the Trompete shopping center is located, Halter AG is building a mixed-use center development in two stages. According to the project developer, stores and restaurants, public-oriented uses and healthcare facilities such as a medical center, a dental practice and an "Activ Fitness" studio run by Migros are planned. A coworking space is also planned. The floors above will house around 150 rental apartments (2.5 to 4.5 rooms). Halter says that some of the apartments will be offered according to the Movement space concept. Here, room elements such as shelves or a bed can be moved at the touch of a button. According to Halter AG, the total investment volume is CHF 138 million.
Halter entered the Metropol project a good two years ago and has revised and repositioned it with the Wetzikon architectural firm Meierpartner. The main components of the revision are a central city street for pedestrians and passers-by inside the center development, a city square and a "Spanish staircase" as a cross connection between Bahnhofstrasse and the Jörg Schneider Park as well as the Wetzikon industrial vocational school. According to Halter, this passage will create an urban opening and neighborhood connection that will greatly enhance the neighborhood around the Metropol center. The UBS Sima real estate fund acquired the project at the end of 2021. Halter and Turintra, which is part of the fund, have realized several projects in the past, such as the Claraturm high-rise in Basel and the Zwicky Zentrum in Wallisellen.
The planning application became legally binding at the beginning of September 2021, and on January 17, 2022, the first construction work began with the demolition of the buildings in the northern part of the site. In spring 2022, the structural work for the building construction of the first stage is to start, which is to be ready for occupancy in November 2023. The second stage is to follow two years later.
