PK SBB plans residential and commercial development in Baden
The SBB pension fund wants to replace four existing properties in the center of Baden with a new building. The winner of the project competition has now been chosen.
The SBB Pension Fund (PK SBB) acquired the properties at Badstrasse 25, 27, 29 and Brenntweg 1 in Baden a few years ago. Since the buildings were in need of major renovation, it was decided in consultation with the city of Baden to replace them with a new building, according to the pension fund. In the process, the four parcels are to be combined.
The La famosa scalinata project by Lando Rossmaier Architekten emerged as the winner of a competition; the jury unanimously recommended the design for further development. According to the PK SBB, the concept is based on the historical structure of Badstrasse. The division into three building sections will not only enhance Badstrasse as the main address, but also Brenntweg. The first floor of the new building will house high-quality retail space and a restaurant. An oval staircase leads to the town apartments on the upper floors.
According to PK SBB, the building application is to be submitted in the second half of 2022. The realization could then start in the summer of 2023. (ah)
