Conversion of the SIG site starts with the "Grünerbaum" project

In Neuhausen am Rheinfall, plans have now been presented for the redevelopment of the 120,000 square meter SIG site, which was previously closed. For implementation, the entire site is to be divided into construction fields, the SIG Charitable Foundation announces.

Priority is given to the development of industrial wastelands, open spaces and poor building stock in the northern part of the site. In a second step, the buildings and open spaces in the southern area are to be further developed with direct reference to the future planning of the major industrial tenants.

The "Grünerbaum" project now heralds the start of the transformation process on the SIG site. The striking, vacant ensemble of buildings between Industrieplatz and Badstrasse, consisting of the "Hochbau", "Grünerbaum" and "Weinberg" buildings, is to be given a new lease of life in accordance with historic preservation principles. On the first floor, a mixture with public use will be created. On the upper floors, residential uses facing the inner courtyard are in the foreground.

Project planning was started in the spring of 2015, and the construction application is expected to be submitted at the beginning of 2016. The start of construction is scheduled for the second half of 2016, so that the "Grünerbaum" project is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

The site owes its name to SIG, a globally active manufacturer of carton packaging and filling machines for beverages and food, which still has its headquarters on the industrial site. In 2011, the SIG Charitable Foundation took over the site from SIG as part of a long-term commitment. (ah)
