Biel is looking for a utilization concept for the station area
The city of Biel intends to develop a utilization concept for the station area by 2024, which will serve as the basis for further development.
The area around Biel's train station is changing: In the north, the capacities of the station square are reaching their limits; in the south, major development projects are giving the area a new function. Over the next two years, the city of Biel would therefore like to work with the population and local businesses to develop a utilization concept that will serve as a planning basis for the projects to redesign and further develop the station area.
According to the city of Biel, the station area is to be "analyzed holistically and rethought". It is to become an attractive regional center in the heart of the city. The area around the station is not only a mobility hub, but also a link between the city center in the north, the recreational area on the lake and the southern agglomeration.
The utilization concept is developed in a multi-stage process: First, the conditions in the area will be examined, with a focus on urban development, mobility and usage requirements. In a second phase, the needs of the population will be discussed by December 2022. In a third phase, test planning is expected to be carried out in the spring and summer of 2023, in which various usage scenarios for the station area will be run through.
