Bern: Credits for Viererfeld project approved
In Bern, voters have clearly approved the Viererfeld/Mittelfeld proposal. This means that the major project, which envisages the construction of a good 1,100 apartments, has cleared an important hurdle.
The vote was about the loans for infrastructure and development of the urban development project. A total of 64% approved them. This means that the roads, a public park, squares and other infrastructure for the new city quarter can be realized. The commitment credits included in the proposal add up to CHF 124.6 million, and a withdrawal of CHF 19.7 million from the special financing "Compensation for planning added value" has also been approved.
In the next step, voters are expected to be able to decide in June 2023 on the transfer of building rights for two land areas on the Viererfeld/Mittelfeld. The City Council approved the corresponding business for the referendum on February 16, 2023.
As reportedThe building rights for two of the areas to be allocated have been awarded to the Bern Capital Cooperative and Mobiliar Asset Management AG. Because the value of the building rights exceeds CHF 10 million, Bern's voters must vote on the decision. (aw)
