MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme is significantly expanding its laboratory capacity at the Schachen (LU) site with a new building. According to site manager Corinna Lenz, around 350 square meters of additional laboratory space will be available in the new building, and more than 20 analysts and engineers will be working there in future.

The building houses various special laboratories, for example for examining cell cultures or a biochemistry laboratory.

Around 490 people work for MSD in Schachen; it is one of only two sites worldwide that supplies patients in clinical trials with new medicines. The pharmaceutical company has invested a total of around CHF 150 million in the site since 2012, with CHF 20 million alone going towards the new building that has now been completed. (ah)
