St. Gallen: Coliving opens in converted office building
Together with the startup Tomodomo and Halter, Mobimo has converted an office building in St. Gallen into Coliving. The result is 94 rooms.
The start-up Tomodomo has opened a coliving building in St. Gallen together with the total contractor Halter AG and the real estate company Mobimo. The building at Wassergasse 50, named Domo Fabric, is reportedly one of the largest coliving facilities in Switzerland.
The Coliving House at Wassergasse 50 was created by converting a building on a former textile industry site. It has 94 rooms and seven large communal kitchens. The complex also includes a roof terrace and a co-working space.
The St. Gallen Coliving House is the sixth conversion of this type to be completed. Tomodomo has realized. However, this is the first time an office building has been converted into residential space. The building is owned by Mobimo, which began the conversion shortly after the pandemic. "The introduction of home offices and their continued existence in today's working world has changed the
demand for office space in certain locations," writes Tomodomo. In many cases, coliving is a "sustainable and urban development-enhancing alternative". (aw)
