Waldhaus Flims: luxury hotel in trouble
The Waldhaus Flims, a flagship resort with 150 rooms in Graubünden, is apparently struggling to survive. High energy costs and lower occupancy rates are cited as the reasons.
The Waldhaus Flims Wellness Resort, one of the well-known luxury hotels in the Swiss Alps, is closing its doors in August and September and existing reservations have been canceled, according to a report in "Blick". In an official statement, the operator speaks of a "financial headwind" and cites cost-cutting measures that have become necessary in order to maintain day-to-day operations. A consultation process - mandatory in the case of major redundancies - has been initiated. The difficulties have arisen, among other things, due to significantly lower capacity utilization and rising energy and maintenance costs.
Opened in 1877, the Waldhaus Flims is considered a flagship of Swiss mountain tourism. It has almost 150 rooms as well as a spa and wellness area and several restaurants. In 2017, the Waldhaus Flims was named the best spa hotel in Switzerland at the European Health and Spa Awards 2017. (aw)
