Thun: Next step for the new Siegenthalergut district
A new district for up to 1,500 people is being built in Thun. In order to realize the project, a zoning plan amendment is required. This is now open to the public.

The Siegenthalergut is a new district being built in Thun. The city of Thun and Frutiger AG are jointly developing a sustainable, future-oriented residential district on a five-hectare site. This offers living space for up to 1,500 people (approx. 700 apartments) and also includes areas for commerce, services and public uses. A central component of the project is a large public park with an area of 7,100 square meters. Last year, the winning project was selected for the design of the outdoor spaces.
The city made adjustments to the project based on feedback from the population, for example reducing the height of some of the buildings and the number of parking spaces. The city also increased the proportion of non-profit residential space to 31 percent. The creation of an energy-plus district was agreed in a separate urban development contract
The documents for the new zone with planning obligation (ZPP) are currently open to the public and will remain open until April 8. If everything goes according to plan, the city council will decide on the ZPP this year. According to the city of Thun, the first construction phase could start in 2027. (ah)
