Egerkingen: Migros starts conversion of Gäupark
The cost of converting the shopping center, which also includes a replacement building, was estimated at CHF 50 million two years ago.
The Migros Aare Cooperative has announced the go-ahead for its major Gäupark project. The first conversion phase for the shopping center in Egerkingen (SO), which has been owned by Migros since 2007, will begin on 6 May. An investment sum of CHF 50 million was stated in the planning application two years ago. The construction work is now scheduled to take three years. It will begin with the demolition of the former Melitta building on the south side of the site. Over 130 parking spaces will be created on the vacated area. The next stage will see the two-storey Gäupark-Nord building demolished in 2025 and replaced by a new building. This will then meet current construction and energy standards. Gäupark East will not be affected by the project.
There had been objections to the project. Most recently, the Swiss Transport Club put up resistance (IB reported).
