The planning for a new urban quarter on the site of the former Zug Cantonal Hospital has taken a significant step forward: the winning design from the architectural competition has now been finalized. It comes from the architectural firm Christ & Gantenbein and envisages a spacious square facing the lake. Grouped around the "Stadthof" is the building of the listed south wing of the former cantonal hospital, which will be converted into a hotel. Bistros, retail space and a flexible event hall are also planned.

The usable concrete structures from the 1970s and 1980s are to be preserved and further developed as far as possible. In addition to a spa facility, the project development also provides space for housing. On the basis of the existing development plan, residential space will be created at market conditions, affordable apartments and an offer for senior living. A publicly accessible park landscape will be created in the surrounding area according to plans by Vogt Landschaftsarchitekten.

"Christ & Gantenbein's project proposal surprises with its intelligent interpretation of the development plan," says jury president Roger Boltshauser about the designs. "The proposed urban development creates a clear
address towards Lake Zug and thus enables a high quality of stay in the area."

HRS develops and builds AST for Credit Suisse

The starting point for the project was the relocation of the cantonal hospital to Baar in 2008. The site overlooks the lake and is located just a few minutes' walk from Zug's old town. In order to do justice to the potential, the canton, as the landowner, launched a quality-assuring development and planning process in collaboration with the city of Zug in 2016. As part of the ideas and investor competition, the "Süd-See Zug" utilization concept by Credit Suisse Investment Foundation and developer and total contractor HRS came out on top. A development agreement and a building lease agreement were subsequently concluded between the canton and the investor.
