Wetzikon: Migros accepts court ruling on new building
The cooperative wants to adapt the plans for the new construction of its shopping center in Wetzikon and assumes that the existing building can be demolished next year.

Migros Ostschweiz wants to replace its Oberland Märt shopping center on Bahnhofstrasse in Wetzikon with a new building. The original application for the new building, submitted in December 2020, has been blocked by an objection. In a recent ruling by the Administrative Court of the Canton of Zurich, the number of public parking spaces was referred back to the city of Wetzikon for a detailed review. The ruling is accepted by all parties involved, Migros writes in a press release. The next steps can now be taken.
The cooperative intends to submit the corrected plans with the number of customer parking spaces confirmed by the administrative court to the city in the spring. For its part, the city of Wetzikon is verifying the required parking spaces for the public. "We will carry out a detailed analysis as part of the current local planning revision based on the mobility strategy and the overall traffic concept of the city of Wetzikon and thus systematically determine the need for inner-city parking spaces," says city councillor Stefan Lenz. Migros expects to be able to start demolishing the existing building in the course of next year.
According to Migros, the construction of the temporary building on the Färberwiese is proceeding according to plan so that it can be opened in time for the expected start of construction at Oberland Märt. In addition to the Migros supermarket, the Migros restaurant, a Denner branch, the Oberland pharmacy, Espresso Optic and a K Kiosk will be represented in the temporary Oberland Märt on the Färberwiese.
