Helvetia expands its headquarters into the "Helvetia Campus
Helvetia Insurance is planning to expand its headquarters at St. Alban-Anlage in Basel into the "Helvetia Campus Basel". The building is being designed by Herzog & de Meuron.
The "Helvetia Campus Basel" project will not only provide additional office space for the insurance group, but also meeting rooms for the local population, according to Helvetia. Construction work is scheduled to begin this year after the summer vacations and be completed by the end of 2023. The investment volume amounts to around CHF 200 million.
Parallel to the current main building, a twin building will be constructed by the end of 2020 as a reinterpretation of the existing building. The two high-rise buildings will be connected by an intermediate building that will house an auditorium, a reception area and event rooms. These can be used for internal and public events. A public rooftop café is also planned on the new office tower.
350 new office workplaces
After completion of the new office building, the previous main building, which was built in the mid-1950s, will undergo extensive renovation. A total of around 350 new office workplaces will be created. Certification with the platinum standard of the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) sustainability label is being sought for the new building.
A final stage envisages the construction of a residential building on the north side of the St.Alban-Anlage. Also according to plans by Herzog & de Meuron, around 50 rental apartments and guest rooms will be built there. The park will be preserved.
The business premises at Steinengraben, the former headquarters of Nationale Suisse, are not affected by the "Helvetia Campus Basel". The Group headquarters in St. Gallen is also currently being expanded and renovated. The last part of the four new, additional office buildings will be completed in late summer 2017. This project is also being realized according to the plans of Herzog & de Meuron.
