Basel: Steiner builds Baloise Park
Baloise has selected Steiner AG as the total contractor for the first major construction phase of Baloise Park.
Steiner AG is thus responsible for the construction of the high-rise building in Baloise Park. The 90-meter tower will house a five-star hotel with 264 rooms operated by Mövenpick. The top seven floors are to be rented out as office space.
The architects Miller & Maranta, who also drew up the development plan for Baloise Park, are responsible for the design of the high-rise building. In total, three independent buildings will be erected as part of the construction project: a hotel tower and two office complexes. The existing office buildings and the Hilton Hotel will be demolished. A public square will be created between the new buildings, connecting with the open spaces of the Elisabethenanlage and the Centralbahnplatz.
Baloise Park, in the immediate vicinity of Basel SBB station, will be built by 2020 and will then be used as the insurer's new headquarters. The site between Aeschengraben, Nauenstrasse and Parkweg has belonged to Baloise since the 1950s. The insurer is moving 700 jobs from various parts of the company together at the site. Another 600 office workplaces are to be leased to third parties.
