Basel: Topping-out ceremony for Felix Platter Hospital
The topping-out ceremony for the new Felix Platter Hospital building in Basel was celebrated on March 31. The new building is to replace the aging existing building from March 2019.
In total, Felix Platter Hospital is investing CHF 250 million in the construction project. The new building will house inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic facilities for university geriatric medicine. These include acute geriatrics, rehabilitation and geriatric psychiatry as well as a day clinic. The Basel Mobility Center and the Memory Clinic are also to move in there.
The building was designed by the architectural firms wörner traxler richter from Frankfurt and HolzerKobler from Zurich. Drees & Sommer has been supporting the project as project and information manager since 2014. Since fall 2016, the company has also been responsible for overall project management on behalf of the client.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is being used in the complex project. One of the central requirements of the competition was to submit the respective designs as BIM models. After completion, the available information is transferred to facility management, continuously compared and updated. For this innovative approach, the project won the international Building Smart Award in the category "Operation and Maintenance Using Open Technology".
