Uri: Green light for the canton's largest building construction project
Uri's parliament has cleared the way for the realization of the canton's largest building construction project. The cantonal council approved a credit of CHF 115 million for the conversion and expansion of the cantonal hospital in Altdorf.
The expenses, which will initially be borne by the canton, are to be reimbursed by the cantonal hospital with an annual user fee of around CHF 4.5 million. In addition to the construction loan, the canton will have to pay a further nine million CHF in expenses, which will include renovation measures for the annex as well as the reconstruction and conversion of the current bed wing and connecting building.
In total, the conversion and new construction project called "William", designed by Darlington Meier Architekten with GMS Partner AG, thus costs around CHF 124 million.
The referendum on the construction loan is scheduled for September 24, 2017. Construction work is scheduled to start in spring 2019, and the new building will be ready for occupation at the end of 2022. The entire conversion could then be completed by the end of 2024.
