Lucerne: New attempt for theatre project
After the cancellation of the New Theater Lucerne / Salle Modulable, the Lucerne City Council wants to make a new attempt at a theater project. For this purpose, a test planning is to be started.

In its cultural bill "Zweckverband Grosse Kulturbetriebe Kanton Luzern", the city council takes up, among other things, a motion from the city parliament calling for the further planning of a new theater infrastructure.
Last fall, the large-scale Salle Modulable project failed after the Cantonal Council rejected the planning credit. The new theater was to include a flexible large auditorium, a smaller performance hall and four studios. According to the feasibility study, it was planned to upgrade the entire Inseli Park into an "urban space with a cultural orientation.
The governing council and the city council already agreed in March 2017 to jointly pursue the infrastructural issues surrounding the renovation of the theater building. Accordingly, the city council first wants to have urban development and urban planning clarifications carried out on the Theaterplatz site.
According to a press release from the city of Lucerne, it is a matter of test planning around Theaterplatz and the question of what additional building volume is compatible at this location and how it should be arranged. Furthermore, it is "about the urban planning issue concerning the current building", its worthiness of preservation and its condition, and the question of which extensions and conversions it would allow.
