How, among other things, the Basel newspaper writes that the Walkeweg development near Dreispitz will create around 400 affordable apartments. The site is currently home to family gardens.

According to the newspaper report, the canton has now put out to tender a planning study that will later guide the development plan for the site. According to the report, the construction and transport department wants to build around 400 apartments according to the "low-cost-low-energy" principle. Artificial cheapening of rents or subsidized construction costs, however, are ruled out. The lion's share is to be made up of 2.5- and 4.5-room apartments.

An elementary school with a double gymnasium is also to be built on the site. The streetcar depot, built in 1915 according to plans by Hans Bernoulli, is not to be demolished; rather, a cultural use is conceivable.

Planning offices can submit their proposals until September, and in a second step a site development study will be prepared. Construction will start in 2020 at the earliest.
