Bern: Laying of the foundation stone on the Inselspital site
At the beginning of July, the foundation stone was laid for a new building of the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine, in short: sitem-insel AG, at Freiburgstrasse 18 in Bern.
The new sitem-insel AG building will be completed and ready for occupancy in early 2019. It is located directly at the entrance to the Bern Inselcampus and will house the national competence center for translational medicine and entrepreneurship in the future. The Federal Council had classified the project as a research facility of national importance with the highest priority in December 2016.
Government Councillor Christoph Ammann explained that the location canton of Bern had issued the new legal basis to support the translational center twice as fast as usual and granted the building permit in record time. Thanks to sitem-insel, the five cantons of the capital region would come a big step closer to their goal of further expanding and internationally positioning the joint medical location with a strong medtech industry and a rapidly growing pharmaceutical and biotech industry, Ammann said at the laying of the foundation stone.
HRS Real Estate AG is acting as total contractor for the construction project and has been accompanying the project with total costs of around CHF 90 million since the start of construction. The building, designed by Büro B Architekten AG, will provide space for numerous translational projects on an area of more than 20,000 square meters and a volume of around 114,000 cubic meters, as well as a public parking garage and a restaurant.
