Hotel prices fall significantly in some cases

In the first half of 2015, the average price of an overnight hotel stay in Switzerland fell to 194 francs (prior-year period: 197). Prices fell most sharply in Lausanne, where only 170 francs had to be paid instead of 195 francs. This is the result of the current Hotel Price Index of the booking portal hotels.com.

A total of 18 Swiss cities were examined: In addition to Lausanne, hotel stays in Winterthur and Biel also became significantly cheaper. They dropped from 159 to 139 francs and from 146 to 132 francs per night, respectively. Hoteliers also had to accept price reductions in Zurich, Basel, Bern, Geneva, St. Moritz, Montreux and Grindelwald. Prices remained stable in Locarno, Lucerne and Zermatt.

Price increases were recorded by hotels.com in Davos, Lugano, Interlaken and St. Gallen. In Ascona, the average hotel room price even rose from 226 to 243 francs. St. Moritz remained the most expensive destination, now at 266 (previously: 291) francs for an overnight hotel stay.

According to the "Hotel Survey" of the British business travel provider Hogg Robinson, the Swiss cities of Geneva and Zurich are in fourth and fifth place in an international comparison of price levels - behind Moscow, New York and San Francisco. According to the survey, business travelers have to pay an average of 197.65 British pounds (-5.9 %) in Geneva and 196.86 pounds (-2.4 %) in Zurich. (mr)
