The property was previously occupied by the German sports brand Adidas (since 2004). Originally, the retail space in Zurich's Niederdorf district sold fish, poultry and delicatessen products from the Italian food wholesaler Bianchi.

The city on the Limmat will thus have Burton's second European flagship store (after Innsbruck). New Yorker Jake Burton Carpenter founded the company in 1977, which is headquartered in Burlington, Vermont. There are other branches in California, Australia, Canada, China, Japan and Austria.

There are also stores in Milan (Italy), Helsinki (Finland) and Busan (South Korea). In Switzerland, the snowboard brand is already represented with stores in Flims and Laax. In addition to snowboards and matching sportswear, the retail store now also offers camping articles.
