Basel: MediaMarkt leaves the Stücki
The electronics chain MediaMarkt, until now one of the largest tenants in Basel's Stücki shopping center, is giving up the location. The reason is the repositioning of the mall.

Like SRF first reported, MediaMarkt will close its Stücki store in August 2018. The shopping center near the border is repositioning itself with a stronger focus on leisure offerings. Among other things, a cinema complex will be embedded in the existing structure, but there will be fewer stores in the future.
According to the report, MediaMarkt's retail space would have shifted and become smaller. "That was also a reason why we are moving away. But the main reason is clearly that the Stücki in its new form would no longer be the environment we want," quotes SRF MediaMarkt media spokesman Sacha Wigdorovits. They are now looking for a new location in Basel.
Migros, which operates a supermarket and restaurant in the shopping center, will continue to operate them after the mall's repositioning, according to the SRF-Report continues.
According to a report by the Basel newspaper the fashion chain Hallhuber and the office supplies chain Office World have already closed their stores in the Stücki. Citing unconfirmed sources, it is further reported that Swarovski, H&M, Toys 'R' Us, Confiserie Läderach, Esprit and the associated clothing chain edc and Herren Globus will also be leaving the shopping center in the coming year.
