Hotel Glogghuis on Melchsee-Frutt closed
The Hotel Glogghuis on Melchsee-Frutt in the canton of Obwalden is no longer receiving guests for the time being. The homepage states that the business is "closed for health and economic reasons". For the employees, the news apparently came as a "complete surprise", as reported by the "Luzerner Zeitung".
According to Markus Bolliger, managing director of Obwalden Tourism, the Hotel Glogghuis has been removed from the reservation system for the time being - so far, attempts to contact hotel owner Albert von Deschwanden have been in vain, Bolliger said.
Furthermore, regional media reports speculate about financial problems as a result of a hotel fire in the Glogghuis, which had been caused by a technical defect in spring 2014. The enormous property damage had meant - despite insurance - a financial burden for the business, as von Deschwanden explained to the newspaper at the time. He had taken over the Hotel Glogghuis in 2009. (bw)
