LAC cultural centre opens in Lugano
On September 12, the LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura was opened after about 15 years of planning and construction. The CHF 210 million center for visual arts, music and stage art was designed by architect Ivano Gianola.
The 650 sqm entrance hall opens onto the new Piazza Bernardino Luini, which opens onto the lake, and connects the new cultural center with the Church of Santa Maria degli Angioli and the adjacent old convent of the Franciscan Friars Minor, which also belongs to the LAC.
The entrance hall leads to the theater and concert hall with its 1,000 seats. On the opposite side of the entrance hall is the entrance to the museum. Three exhibition levels will house the permanent collection, while the other levels will feature temporary exhibitions.
The structure is completed by the Studio Theater, various multipurpose halls, the Agorà, an amphitheater outside the Hall - and the Spazio -1, which houses the collection of modern and contemporary art Giancarlo and Danna Olgiati. (ah)
